The National Medical Coding Institute is a division of Medical Asset Management, Inc. It was created to be the educational arm of the company by providing medical coding courses to the public.
NMCI currently offers the approved professional medical coding curriculum developed by the American Academy of Professional Coders in Salt Lake City, Utah. This course prepares individuals to sit for the Certified Professional Coder certification examination. Individuals who successfully pass this exam receive the CPC or CPC-H designation.
Since 1998, NMCI has offered this course three times each year- January, April and August. The certification exam is offered on the final day of each session in April, August and December.
COURSE FEES: The fee for the PMCC coding course is $2025.00.

The Professional Medical Coding Curriculum (PMCC) course fee includes:
- 14-Week Intensive Course

- PMCC Course Workbooks
- PMCC Course Study Guide
COURSE MATERIALS:
Each course participant is responsible for separately obtaining the following reference books:
- Current year CPT book (Current Procedural Terminology- Professional Edition is recommended)
- Current year ICD-9 book (International Classification of Diseases, Clinical Modification, 9th Revision), Volumes I and II are needed for individuals interested in obtaining CPC certification; Volumes I, II and III are needed for individuals interested in obtaining the CPC-H certification.
- Current year HCPCS book (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System)
- A medical dictionary

CERTIFICATES:
Upon successful completion of the course, each student will receive a certificate of completion from the AAPC. REFUND POLICY: If the course is canceled by NMCI, 100% of the course fee is refundable. All other refund requests must be in writing and subject to the approval of the program coordinator of NMCI. There are no refunds once the course begins.

The CPC-H (Certified Professional Coder-Hospital) examination is designed to evaluate a hospital outpatient coder's knowledge of:
- Medical Terminology
- ASC Facility Questions
- CPT Coding Guidelines
- ICD-9-CM (Volumes 1, 2 and 3) Diagnostic Coding
- HCPCS Level 2
- Human Anatomy
- UB-04 Claim Forms
- Medicare Guidelines
The CPC-P (Certified Professional Coder-Payer) examination is designed to evaluate the payer coder's aptitude, proficiency and knowledge of coding guidelines and reimbursement methodologies for all types of services from the payer's perspective.
Each examination is separate and distinct from one another.
GENERAL EXAMINATION INFORMATION
CPC exam format: Five and ½ hour timed test. Open book (CPT, ICD-9-CM Volumes 1& 2, and HCPCS Level 2). 150 questions divided into three sections.
